In-house model Olivia

Whilst doing a 4 week work placement at the Jasper Conran studio, I was lucky enough to join the design team which included the head pattern cutter, production line manager, design assistant, Womenswear RTW designer, in-house model Olivier Inge and Jasper Conran himself, in the 1st women’s RTW fittings. Occasionally Jasper assistant Neil entered for a quick butchers.

This was a completely different experience I encountered, much different to the one the day before where I made a lemon and Ginger tea for the man himself and greeted him in the morning as he arrived in his vintage Bentley.

Was quite intense but amazing to be apart of. Olivia was so lovely. Between nibbling at dried and sending texts on her blackberry, she was undressing and dressing into some of the most beautiful garments I have ever seen. The cut, colour and finish was remarkable.

Olivia Inge was born in Somerset, is five foot eleven and started working for Vivienne Westwood at the tender age of 16.

GFW

My first time visiting GFW was overwealming, exciting, colourful, proffesional and most if all inspirational (and a tad bloody scary, knowing this is the level i need to reach in my final year). Getting over my intitial :0...i found the work astounding. Viewing my own Universities work (Leeds) was fun and very good, yet i believe we could learn a thing or two from universities such as Bristol uni. I was fortunate enough to watch their fashion show. Here are some of my favourite photos/outfits...

Aubin & Wills

Having an interview at Aubin & Wills, i was required to pull together a mood/customer profile board depicting the Aubin & Wills customer & brand. I was also required to produce three fully outfitted illustrations, along with flat diagrams of the styled garments. I had always heard of Jack Wills but never Aubin & Wills. Once i had performed some research and gathered some inspiration I instantly fell in love...

Aubin & Wills was launched in 2008 and now has 7 stores around the U.K. It is aimed primarily at the post-university age (25-35), and is inspired by classic British style, heritage and culture, updated with a contemporary edge. It has been said to be the sophisticated sibling to Jack Wills specifically aimed at those who have now graduated University and wish for a more sophisticated brand having outgrown the university focused Jack Wills brand, a brand aimed at the higher educated customer just graduated form university.
Aubin & Wills portrays a cultured, aspirational lifestyle which combines formal with casual, traditional with contemporary to create a unique, eclectic, British style. They draw inspiration from references like Hockney in the sixties, Princess Diana in the eighties, Blur in the nineties, and Alexa Chung in the noughties

Nonwoven project - garment technology

Starting our journey we recieved a catwalk image from John Rocha’s Spring/summer 2010 collection, which would act as our source of inspiration for designing our garments. The aim of the project was to create two garments distinctly representing elements of decoratif and nonwovens in order to develop our research and contextual skills.
We were required to produce one to two outfits out of a selection of nonwovens. As a team, consisting of Amy Whitfield, Paige Wilkins and Sarah Yacabe, we established a unique and diverse approach in using nonwovens to design and develop our garments.
Our research undertook several pathways into decoratif and the use of nonwovens, including innovative techniques, some of which include laser cutting, sonic bonding and burning. We informed our work by looking into various designers and artists and by creating several samples using a variety of unique textile materials and tools...

This was our inspiration:
